Where routes work today
Runbound plans round-trip runs on real streets we host ourselves. Every route ends where you start. Streets are served per region, so coverage is exact: inside a tinted area routes work everywhere, outside them the app says so honestly instead of guessing.

United Kingdom includes Northern Ireland. The Canary Islands are not part of the Spain region yet.

Five routing regions covering all 51 states and DC. Region borders follow the Census regions, so metro areas that straddle state lines stay in one region. Each tint is one region.

Where a route stops
A route never crosses a region border. The streets for each region live on their own server, and a round-trip is planned entirely inside one of them. Start a run in Maastricht and every suggested loop stays in the Netherlands, even though Belgium is a kilometre away. In the US the borders are the five region borders, not state lines. A Kansas City loop can use both sides of the Missouri–Kansas line, because both sides are the Midwest region.
Near a border, honesty beats guessing. Regions are matched by their outer bounds, which overlap a little at the edges. Right on a border the app may briefly look in the neighbouring region and find no streets for you there. It then says “no round-trip from here yet” rather than handing you a loop in the wrong country. Moving the start point a little always resolves it.
Outside every tinted area the Routes screen says so plainly, and the rest of the app works exactly the same: your plan, your runs, the watch. Routes are a suggestion, never a requirement.
How coverage grows
When someone opens Routes outside every region, our server counts one anonymous tally for that country: no location, no identity, just “someone in Portugal wanted a route”. Those tallies decide which region we build next, and adding one takes about a day.
Street data comes from OpenStreetMap and every region is rebuilt monthly, so new paths and closed streets find their way into your routes.
